Conquering the Ellipse
The sun might fade but it hasn’t gone dark. Dusk has set though a dawn will embark. The sun has no candle to burn- Only new life and new mind to churn. Though even it might one day pass In some distant time may there be mass That pays homage to the sun’s spirit By promoting exploits of certain merit With unwavering strive and vigor That the common man might shiver With anticipation for what could be In a world ambition free Save the ambition of honor. A world embraced with rigor For fear that wicks would burn low If greed and vice were to flow Past the pulpit and into the street Past the civilian and into the fleet, And into regulations and laws With little recourse or pause. Adapting entire civilizations To new science and revelations , Forsaking the candle and its wax For frivolity, security, and the tax- Things that progress shields In defense of quarterly yields. Now we have the promise of liberty But what of the notion of chivalry. Might the lessons of the past simply inform The people not to conform To the common extrapolation Of the modern style of contemplation- Be it theocracy, anarchy, or democracy because still the self will be itself in one setting or another and young are the minds that smother the candle’s flame in order to win the game instead of drinking in what exists beyond chronistic mists.
